I managed to install NetBSD 7.1 it recognised my Linksys WPC11 V3 16 bit PCMCIA card with the wi0 driver.

I used an IBM Micro-drive in the compact flash port with hpcboot.exe, netbsd.tz file on a DOS partition, and it completed the installation.

Can anyone help with the following:

1. How do I get it to boot into NetBSD now it is installed. Do I run the installer hpcboot.exe again and enter a command.

2. The Wifi card is not recognised in the NetBSD 9 build.

Kind Regards
David

Since you did not provide details, I am guessing:

product LINKSYS2 IWN3 0x1613 Instant Wireless Network PC Card, Versin 3

... which is still supported (by wi(4)) in netbsd-9.
2. The Wifi card is not recognised in the NetBSD 9 build.
Without more details (e.g. the output of the "dmesg" command from the
netbsd-9 boot) we can not really help here. Maybe the pcmcia adapter
has not been recognized? So the problem would not be the wifi card, but
any PC card would not work. Do you have any others to try? After booting
the -9 installer and exiting to a shell, does the machine show any messages
if you unplug or plug a PC card?

Hi Martin

I managed to download the full NetBSD 7.1 install using this card via FTP.

If you can advise how I can boot my IBM Workpad into NetBSD from the pdsboot.exe file and what I need to type in will be happy to run dmesg.

When I run Network configure it identifies it as wi0 with the NetBSD 7.1 installer.

I tried NetBSD 9.1 but it just said no network devices where recognisable.

Regards
David

FWIW, i tried a wi(4) on i386 with -current recently and it
didn't probe *at all*. i didn't investigate why. this used
to work, but it's been over a decade since i used those.

it's possible that we have generic pcmcia issues since -7.

I have tested one recently (in a nell(4)) and it worked, but of course
that does not tell much about other pcmcia adapters.

Hmm, macppc -current:
[ 17.060042] bwi0: autoconfiguration error: firmware_open failed on
v3/ucode5.fw
[ 17.740043] wi0 at pcmcia0 function 0: <Dell, TrueMobile 1150
Series PC Card, Version 01.01, >
[ 17.740043] wi0: 802.11 address 00:02:2d:20:46:36
[ 17.860043] wi0: using Lucent Technologies, WaveLAN/IEEE
[ 17.860043] wi0: Lucent Firmware: Station (6.10.1)

that's on a bog standard texas instrument cardbus bridge thing.

have fun

Yes, you need to go through Windows CE and hpcboot.exe to restart NetBSD
from scratch (I think I'm using pbsdboot personally, but I don't currently
have access to the machine.)
Just make it start an GENERIC kernel instead of the install kernel.

Alex.
